Samsung Electronics has exclusively licensed optically clear superhydrophobic film technology from the Department of Energy’s Oak Ridge National Laboratory to improve the performance of glass displays on smartphones, tablets and other electronic devices. ORNL
What this technology will mean for new Samsung phones
- Repels water. Water keeps away from the phone! How cool is that?
Plus the water will carry along all dust and dirt on the screen.
- Reduces light reflection on screen and allows for clear vision even under sunlight
- Resists fingerprints and those annoying smudges on the screen!
Basically it’s like having a smartphone with an ageless screen
So when do we get to see this new technology in use?
9to5google.com predicts that it’s entirely possible that it would appear on the upcoming Galaxy S8 or other future products.
This technology is a result of a 3-year research and development efforts of Tolga Aytug and other team members at ORNL on Glass-based coating.
